Technical Art Director | Full-Remote | Short-term contract

For our client, a well-known AAA game studio based in the UK, Antal International is seeking a Technical Art Director to join them for a short-term contract

In this position, you will collaborate closely with artists, technical artists, and fellow engineers to innovate rendering techniques encompassing lighting, shadows, post-processing, VFX, and more. Your role extends to partnering with the art team to achieve exceptional visual quality with scalability for high frame rates across various platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

• Define artistic goals and technical constraints to oversee the development of tools, processes, and methods optimizing artistic production.
• Lead the implementation and monitoring of technical validation and compliance processes, collaborating with technical artists and tools departments to ensure optimal rendering of art assets at runtime.
• Collaborate with the Rendering team to introduce, research, and develop tools or methods realizing the artistic vision.
• Guide and mentor team members in their tasks, priorities, and technical skills.
• Communicate, collaborate, and coordinate with other members of the art and engineering teams through Slack, code reviews, design reviews, bugs, and video calls.

Basic Qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience on multi-discipline teams as a Technical Artist or Technical Art Director.
• At least 3 years of experience in rendering systems and pipelines for games, possessing good knowledge of real-time rendering, GPU architectures, shaders, and multi-threaded rendering pipelines.
• At least 3 years of experience managing team members.
• Familiarity with technologies used in modern games.
• Deep knowledge of industry-standard graphics software (Maya, Substance, Blender, etc.).
• Advocate for building robust workflows based on peer feedback.
• Passionate about creating games and delivering the highest quality gameplay for players.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate positively and effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience working with Unreal Engine 4+.
• Experience working on large-scale teams of 100 or more.
• Experience in shipping a AAA game title.
